Abstract

This study aims to determine the reasoning ability of eighth grade students of junior high school in Plaju Ulu District. This study uses a stratified random method. There are 17 public and private junior high schools in the sub-district of plaju ulu, four junior high schools were taken as samples, namely 20 public junior high schools, Patra Mandiri junior high schools, 56 public junior high schools and Sriguna junior high schools with 111 students. Data collection was carried out using TIMSS question instruments in 2003 and 2011 in the category of reasoning ability for physics problems with cognitive indicators of analysis and concept ability for 15 questions. Before being used in research, the questions first carry out language validation tests. After the language validation test was carried out, then carried out the research and the questions that had been carried out by the research were then carried out the test of the suitability of the questions by using the Rasch model. The results obtained in this study that the ability of junior high school students in the Subdistrict of Plaju Ulu is lower for the indicator of analysis than the ability of the concept.
