Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of disk rotation speed and material hardness on the performance of the chip slicer. This research was conducted from July 2020 to March 2021. This research used a chip slicer using three disc rotation speeds, namely 951.3 rpm (fast), 795.5 rpm (moderate), 682.9 rpm speed. (slow), and the hardness of the ingredients were cilembu (976.6 gF, cassava (688.6 gF), potato (305.8 gF) and in each experiment using three repetitions. This research used experimental design method, namely factorial completely randomized design with the parameters of the work capacity of the chip slicer, the work efficiency of the chip slicer, the thickness of the chips, the uniformity of the chips, the damage to the chips and the specific motor resource. The results showed that the best cutting capacity results found in the A3B1 experiment (speed 682.9 rpm and sweet potato material 976.6 gF), the best efficiency results were found in experiment A2B3 (speed 795.5 rpm and potato material 305.8 gF) , the highest thickness results were found in the A3B2 experiment (speed 682.9 rpm and cassava material 688.6 gF), the best uniformity results were 6.93 mm, the most damage results were in the A1B2 experiment (speed 951.3 rpm and material hardness cassava 688.6 gF) and the highest yield of specific resources was found in the A2B3 experiment (speed 795.5 rpm and potato material hardness 305.8 gF).
