Abstract
This research was aimed to find out the effect of the moisture content of the material and the speed of rotation of the knife on the performance of the onion lengthening machine. This research has been conducted from October 2020 to February 2021 at the Laboratory of Agricultural Machinery and workshop, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, South Sumatra. The method used was a Randomized complete block design factorial (RAKF) with two research factors, namely the moisture content of the material (A) and the speed of rotation of the knife (B) with three levels of treatment and each combination of repeated treatment three times. The parameters of this study are the working capacity of the tool, Yield, and Uniformity treatment resulting. The results of this study showed that the treatment of the moisture content of the material and the speed of the blade rotation had a real effect on the effective capacity of the machine and the uniformity of the cutting results but had no real effect on the treatment of yield. For the highest effective capacity value of the machine is found in the combination of 80% moisture treatment and blade rotation speed of 700 rpm (A1B1) which is 16.17 kg /h. For the most cutting efficiency treatment is a combination of water content treatment 80% and blade rotation speed of 700 rpm (A1B1) which is 98%. And for the average percentage of the combination of uniformity treatment resulting from 0.5 mm to 0.8 mm in thickness, the most is the combination of 60% moisture treatment and 700 rpm blade rotation speed of 34.88%.
