Abstract

Echinoderms are one of the phylum of marine biodiversity that have an important role in marine ecosystems (Supono et al., 2014). One of them is Echinoidea (sea urchin) (Yusron, 2013). Research on sea urchins in the Kelagian Lunik island area is measly there is no data about how many types of sea urchins are in the Kelagian Lunik Island area and also how the density of sea urchins on the island, so it is necessary on the Density and Diversity Study of Sea Urchins on Kelagian Island Lunik, Pesawaran Districts, Bandar Lampung. The main purpose of this study is to determine the density and diversity level of sea urchins (Echinoidea) in the coastal waters of Kelagian Lunik Island, Pesawaran Regency, Bandar Lampung. The implementation of this research was carried out from May to August 2021 in the waters of Kelagian Lunik Island, Pesawaran District, Bandar Lampung and analyzed in the Ecology Laboratory of the Biology Department, Sriwijaya University. In this study the station was determined using a purposive sampling method so that there were 3 stations, namely station 1 coral reef substrate, station 2 sand substrate with seagrass and station 3 sand substrate. The research includes determining the research location, determining the transect and plot location, collecting sea urchin data and collecting data on the water environment parameters in the coastal waters of Kelagian Lunik Island. Based on the research that has been done, it can be concluded that the coastal waters of Kelagian Lunik Island have a type composition of sea urchins consisting of 3 types, namely Brissus sp, Diadema sp, and Echinothrix sp with density values ranging from 0,026 ind/m2 - 1,28 ind/m2. Diversity index and uniformity index values between stations in the coastal waters of Kelagian Lunik Island have a low value with a dominance index reaching 1 at station 3 because there are no other species, only Brissus sp.
