Abstract

Infant mortality is one of indicators that related to health status and human development index. Indonesia is one of the countries that has not yet reached the target of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), where one of the latest targets is to reduce infant mortality rates by 12 per 1000 live births. One of the factors causing infant mortality is low birth weight because LBW babies are more susceptible to hypothermia, the development of imperfect body organs, and the delays of growth and development during childhood. This study aims to find out the relationship of low birth weight with infant mortality. The study is a quantitative research and uses a cross sectional study design with a sample of 12.867 mothers that fit the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Univariate data analysis performed on complex sample univariate analysis, bivariate analysis uses Pearson values in complex samples, and multivariate analysis uses logistic regression tests of risk factor models. The results show that 123 mothers experienced infant deaths in their last children. Bivariate analysis shows that low birth weight (p-value <0,001), maternal age <20 and> 35 years (0,013), pregnancy complications (p-value <0,001), and recident (p-value 0,022) can increase the risk of infant mortality. Multivariate analysis shows that there is a correlation between low birth weight with infant mortality after its controlled by pregnancy complications variable (p-value <0.001). It is needs to optimize of giving information about mothers health both during pregnancy and during childbirth or after childbirth as well as child health by health workers by using communication, information, and educational strategies to reduce the imcidence of infant mortality.
