Abstract

Kalamansi orange (Citrus microcarpa Bunge.) has the potential to be an antimicrobial source because the peel of the fruit contains flavonoids, tannins, and alkaloids which have been shown to inhibit the growth of gram-negative bacteria. This study aims to obtain information about the effect of kalamansi orange peel ethanol extract (C. microcarpa Bunge.) on the growth of Salmonella typhi bacteria and the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of kalamansi orange peel ethanol extract (C. microcarpa Bunge.) on the growth of S. typhi bacteria. This research was an experimental study with a completely randomized design (CRD), then the results were analyzed using the One Way ANOVA test. The ethanol extract of kalamansi orange peel with concentrations of 0%, 5%, 7,5%, 10%, 12,5%, and 15% was tested for antibacterial activity against the growth of S. typhi bacteria using the disc diffusion method. The parameter observed was the diameter of the inhibition zone formed around the disc paper. The mean diameter of the inhibition zone obtained was 0 mm, 5,27 mm, 5,36 mm, 5,97 mm, 6,87 mm, and 7 mm, respectively. The results of the study were negligible, the ethanol extract of kalamansi orange peel (C. microcarpa Bunge.) had a significant effect on the growth of S. typhi bacteria, with a 95% confidence level and minimum concentration inhibition (MIC) of kalamansi orange peel ethanol extract (C. microcarpa Bunge.) the growth of S. typhi bacteria was at a concentration of ≤10%, to be exact, the MIC was at a concentration of 5% with an average diameter of the inhibition zone 5,27 mm. The results of the study were contributed in the form of non-experimental student worksheets (SW) on Basic Competence (KD). 3.8 Grouping plants into divisions based on general characteristics, as well as linking their role in life, in high school biology subject class X even semesters.
