Abstract

This study aims to study the effect of giving probiotics from silage of copper kumpai grass (Hymnenachne acutigluma) in improving the performance of male layer chickens optimally. This research lasted for two months in the experimental cage of the Animal Husbandry Study Program, Department of Animal Science and Industry, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This study used 100 male layer chickens from PT. Japfa Comfeed Indonesia and use commercial rations from PT. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatments and 4 replications, each replication used 5 male layer chickens. Each treatment consisted of P0 (Control), P1 (Commercial Ration + Probiotic at a dose of 0,2%), P2 (Commercial Ration + Probiotic at a dose of 0,4%), P3 (Commercial Ration + Probiotic at a dose of 0,6%) and P4 (Commercial Ration + Probiotic with a dose of 0,8%). The variables observed in this study were ration consumption, body weight gain and ration conversion. The results showed that the provision of probiotics from copper kumpai grass silage had a significant effect (P<0,05) on ration consumption, body weight gain (PBB) and ration conversion (FCR). The conclusion of this study is that the provision of probiotics from copper kumpai grass silage into the ration at a dose of 0,8% shows optimal results in improving the performance of male layer chickens at the age of 8 weeks.
