Abstract

The aim of the study is to determine whether there is a role of social curiosity towards fear of missing out in adolescent social media users. The hypothesis of this study includes the role of social curiosity towards fear of missing out. The participants of this study are 183 adolescents who use social media. Sampling is done by using purposive sampling techniques. This study uses two scales as a measure, namely the fear of missing out scale that refers to FoMO characteristics from Przybylski, Murayama, DeHaan and Gladwell (2013) and social curiosity scale that refers to social curiosity aspects from Renner (2006). Hypothesis testing is done using simple regression analysis. The testing results obtained show that the role of social curiosity towards fear of missing out is significant with R square =0,164 , F =35,523, p = 0,000 (p <0,05). Thus the proposed hypothesis is accepted, where the contribution of social curiosity towards the fear of missing out is 16,4%
