Abstract

The main disease in curly red chilies is anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum spp. which can reduce yields and cause crop failure. One way to control that is environmentally friendly is to use bioactive materials from fungi that are anti-fungal (biofungicide). The aim of this study was to determine the ability of low concentrations of herbaceous endophytic fungal filtrate culture to suppress C. gloeosporioides infection in curly red chilies. This study consisted of 2 experiments, namely 1) Liquid culture selection experiments of herbaceous endophytic fungi, 2) Testing the effectiveness of 3 selected liquid cultures against pure cultures of C. gloeosporioides. The method used in this study was a factorial completely randomized design (FCRD) with 2 trials. The first experiment used RAL with 54 treatment combinations of 27 isolates and 2 concentrations (0.5% and 5%) and consisted of 5 red curly chilies as replications. The inoculum of C. gloeosporioides is obtained from sick curly red chilies. The second experiment used a pure culture of C. gloeosporioides using RAL 9 with a combination treatment of 3 isolates and 3 concentrations (0.05; 0.5; and 5%) and 5 replications. Each test consisted of 5 curly red chilies. The inoculum of C. gloeosporioides was obtained from pure culture propagation. Based on the results of the study showed that the liquid culture of 3 selected isolates from 27 isolates of endophytic fungi of herbaceous plants, namely GYG1, GYTF4, and GYT3D with low (0.05%) or high (5%) concentrations can inhibit C. gloeosporioides infection on curly red chilies. The best isolate capable of inhibiting the growth of C. gloeosporioides is GYT3D. Key words: Anthracnose, curly red chilies, and culture of endophytic fungi filtrate.
