Abstract

Maize is one of the important food crops in Indonesia. This research was done in December 2016 to March 2017 on farmland area at Indralaya,OganIlir, South Sumatra. The study utilized four open-pollinated corn accessions, namely Unsri J1, J2, J3 and J4. The study incorporated ad Randomized Block Design, in which bloks considerd nested under each accession. Data analysis was done by using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) followed by LSD Test 5%. Rresults indicated that the corn accession used in this research, in gerneral performed well, with plant height ranged 206 - 220 cm, anthesis at 47 - 49 days, yield potential ranged 7.5-9.0 ton of dry seeds /ha. However, the study did not detect meaningfull differences, but corn accession ofUnsri J2 tendedto have better growth, while Unsri J3 tended to haev higher yield potensial. Polycrossing the selected plants conducted in this study resulted 3.15 - 3.81 kg seeds per accession, and suggested 14-22 selected cobs per accession to be used in next cycle of research and selection.
