Abstract

In the development of welding engineering industry is a material connection technique that is often found in manufacturing industry processes, especially those made of metal. Variation of welding current becomes a factor that affects the rate of corrosion that occurs in welding materials. This study aims to find out how much influence the strong variation of current used in welding SMAW (Shilded Metal Arc Welding) on the rate of corrosion that occurs in the material of the welding process. This study used experimental methods, which used SMAW on ST 37 steel materials using variation of currents of 60, 80 and 100 Ampere. The results of the research that has been done show that the strong variation of current used in the welding process smaw indeed has an influence and obtained the value of weight loss as well as the percentage of damage and corrosion rates are different, the highest current variation experienced the rate of corrosion that is at the current of 100 ampere with a percentage of damage of 4.48% and suffered a heavy loss of 14.56 grams.
