Abstract

Corrosion is metal damage characterized by brownish color on the surface, one of the factors of corrosion occurrence is the environment. Corrosion can provide huge losses economically. To slow the occurrence of corrosion is carried out prevention by using organic rust-slowing substances. This research is an experimental study with the aim of knowing the influence of organic rust slowing substances made with natural ingredients of cashew leaf extract against the corrosion rate of Steel ST37. The research was conducted by specimen testing in nacl corrosive media 3% for 15 days with variations in the content of rust-delayed substances provided for protection. The results showed that specimens that were not protected will experience a corrosion rate of 0.0645 mpy, while protection of 5% experienced a corrosion rate of 0.0373 mpy, protection of 10% experienced a corrosion rate of 0.0323 mpy, protection of 15% experienced a corrosion rate of 0.0294%. Thus, the higher the level of organic rust-slowing substances given, the lower the corrosion rate.
