Abstract

Smoking Behavior is behavior that involve the burning process of tobacco which is inhaled the smoke, either use of cigarettes or also pipes. In reality, the behavior of smoking not only found among adults, but in adolscent too. Smoking behavior among Sriwijaya University’s students already rampant and causes the air pollution at Sriwijaya University. This research aim to analyze the smoking behavior among Sriwijaya Students Indralaya based on Theory Of Planned Behavior. This research used a Qualitative study with in-depth interview method to 32 informants divided into 16 key informants who smokes >1 years and 16 additional informants who smoke < 1 year. The results of this study indicate that 8 out 16 informants have already have smoke behavior since they were in the junior high school (13 – 15 Years). 7 out 8 informants have smokes behavior around campus area, and most of them use white or mild ciggeretes. The intention of smoking started with curiosity and then they tried to smoke. In subjective norm factor, the access to buy ciggerete and smokes around campus makes them feel free to smoke. However, some students do not smoke in their house environment because some of them have younger siblings or have the prohibition to smoke. As many as 5 out of 8 informants said smoking behavior can increase their confident also their social existence. Therefore, the researcher suggests Sriwijaya University Indralaya to issuing the written regulation, firm action, supervising also evaluating to decrease smoker around campus and the growth of new smoker among Sriwijaya University Indralaya’s student.
