Abstract

Spodoptera litura or armyworms, is a polyphageous insect pest and is a major pest in several types of horticultural commodities. Control measures using synthetic chemicals often cause negative impacts in killing useful and non-target insects. Control with Bacillus thuringiensis is an alternative. The aim of this research was to study toxicity of B. thuringiensis applied to plants against S.litura . Experimental design was a randomized block design with 3 treatments and 10 replications. The test plant was caisim ( Brassica juncea ). The treatment at Caisim's garden was the installation of black plastic, white plastic and plant cover without plastic cover. After being applied with B. thuringiensis , caisim leaves were taken for bioassay testing in the laboratory with second instar larvae. Statistical test resulted larval mortality was significantly different among treatments with a range of 60-90%. The leaf area consumed was not significantly different from one to another. The use of plastic cover did not significantly affect the remaining B. thuringiensis on caisim leaves
