Abstract

Land conditions that are submerged and occurred to drought often disrupt rice plant growth in both of vegetative and generative phases. This research was aimed to produce F1 offspring through crossings between Inpara 8 which has a tolerant character for submerged stress in vegetative phase and Inpago 5 which has a tolerant character for drought stress in generative phase. The research was conducted in the greenhouse of Agriculture Faculty, Sriwijaya University from March to July 2020. Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 3 replications was used to evaluate the growth and yield of the two parent varieties, while the Resiprok method was used to obtain the crossings of both parent varieties. In this study the observed parameters consisted of plant height, number of tillers per hill, number of panicles per hill, number of grains per panicle, number of grain per hill, grain weight per panicle, grain wet weight, grain dry weight, weight of 1000 grains, percentage of empty grain, age of flowering, age of harvest, the percentage of crossings, and number of crossed grain. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that parent of Inpago 5 variety has better growth and yield based on parameters of plant height, number of grains per panicle, number of grains per hill, wet weight of grain per panicle and grain dry weight. Likewise, the results of crossing Inpago 5 variety as female parents have a better number of crossed grains than Inpara 8. Key words: inpara 8, inpago 5, crossing
