Abstract

Termite pest, C. curvignathus can be found on plantation lands some of them are oil palm, rubber and sengon which caused physical damage for plants and decrease for the result, so that it can cause a big impact for economic. Because the termites can attack the root and stem of plants so that translocation from water and nutrient of the soil are disturbed then the plants die. The aims of this research are to determine the solidity spores of B. thuringiensis in whey media by using coconut water and tofu whey in incubation for 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours and the effect of bioinsectide from B. thuringiensis in controlling C. curvignathus termites. The research conducted at the Biological Control laboratory and Phytopathology laboratory on Department of Pest and Plant Disease, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University from July 2018 to October 2018. The design research used in the spore solidity test was a completely randomized design (CRD), it consisted of 4 treatments and 5 repetitions, the design of mortality test used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) that consisted of 6 treatments and 5 repetitions. The number of termites used 20/replicates with test insects in the form of termites of worker castes. The results showed that B. thuringiensis propagation in liquid media used coconut water and tofu whey, they had a different range of spore solidity. The results showed that the average spores solidity of 24 hours is not significantly by the average 48 hours spores solidity but it was significantly different from the average 72 hours spores solidity. It can happen because the time needed by bacteria to speculate is too long so that the best bacterial growth is found in the third spores observation, which was 72 hours incubation. The mortality of termites on the treatment of B. thuringiensis with a concentration of 106 spores/ml caused 100% death after 4-5 days after it has implemented. The highest LT50 value was found on coconut water treatment by using DLM5 isolate which was 2,299 days while the treatment with the lowest LT50 value was found on tofu whey treatment by using SMR4 isolate which was 1,938 days. It means that these treatments can kill termites quickly while compared from another treatments. The symptoms of C. curvignathus termites infected with B. thuringiensis are characterized by their movements being passive, discoloration of the abdomen for termites that was form white to black with a soft body and foul odor.
