Abstract

This study is entitled "Shifting the Cooking Tradition in Commitment Activities in the Stairs Community of Kelurahan 35 Ilir, Ilir Barat II District, Palembang City". The problems taken in this study are the factors that cause a shift in the tradition of cooking - cooking in the community celebration activities in the Stairs Stairs Village 35 Ilir Palembang District Ilir Barat II Palembang City and how the efforts undertaken by the community in maintaining cooking traditions in cooking activities in the society of Tangga Buntung Village, Ilir Subdistrict, Ilir Barat II Subdistrict, Palembang City. This research is a qualitative research with the unit of analysis being the Ilir Kelurahan Buntung community who once held a charity celebration. Data collection was obtained through in-depth interviews with ten informants, and direct observation. Data were analyzed qualitatively consisting of three activities that occur simultaneously, namely data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions or verification. From the research that has been done shows that in the tradition of cooking there is a shift in social values caused by community culture. The indicator is that the community constantly interacts dynamically with other cultures. And supported by adequate facilities and infrastructure. The mindset / ideology of people who want to be practical in every event. Work is one of the factors that cause the shifting tradition of cooking because an established economy makes individuals comfortable in acting, one of them is in celebration. The process is complicated, takes a long time and activities that cannot be done alone are what make individuals to follow modern traditions, and vice versa. Community efforts to maintain the tradition of cooking is the existence of cooperation and mutual cooperation.
