Abstract

The processing industries have become a leading sector in Indonesian economic growth since 1991. One of the processing industries which has given significant contributions to the Indonesian Gross National Product (GNP) is the paper industries. This study was aimed at discussing the competitiveness of the Indonesian paper industries analyzed using the index of Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA). The scope and object of this study were the companies which manufacture paper in Indonesia. The data analyzed were the value added, efficiency, labor productivity, and Indonesian paper exports from 1996 to 2011. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the Indonesian paper industries do not have comparative advantage in the paper manufacturing. However, the Indonesian paper price can compete with other paper industries in the world.
