Abstract

The incidence of diarrhea in children under five is still one of the most common public health problems found in Pemulutan District. Diarrhea can occur due to factors of toddlers and environmental basic sanitation factors. The research objective was to analyze the relationship between basic environmental sanitation and the incidence of diarrhea in children under five. This research is a quantitative research with a cross sectional research design. The research sample was 56 toddlers aged (6-59) months. The sampling technique was cluster sampling. Data analysis techniques were univariate, bivariate and multivariate by doing the chi square test. The data was then presented in tabular form to interpret the data. The results showed that there was a relationship between exclusive breastfeeding P=0,002;PR=0,542 (95%CI=0,372-0,788),complementary foods with breastfeeding P=0,000;PR=2,308 (95%CI=1,533-3,475), clean water sources P=0,002;PR=2,165 (95%CI=1,194-3,927), how to dispose of feces P=0,000; PR=3,559 (95%CI=1,794-7,059), how to dispose of waste P=0,000 ;PR=3,778 (95%CI=1,761-8,104) with the incidence of diarrhea in children under five, and variables not related to under-five age P=1,000;PR=0,931 (95% CI=0,643-1,348)and how to dispose of wastewater P=0,860;PR=1,086 (95%CI=0,766-1,539). The results of multivariate analysis showed that the most dominant variable affecting the incidence of diarrhea in children under five was the variable of how to dispose of feces (PR=0.013, 95%CI: 0.001-0.203). It is concluded that the incidence of diarrhea in children under five is strongly influenced by the way in which feces are removed. The goal is to prevent the occurrence of diarrhea in children under five to do proper and proper PHBS and provide proper sanitation facilities to avoid the occurrence of diarrhea.
