Abstract

This study discusses the role of agricultural institutions consisting of farmer groups, Gapoktan, and Village Unit Cooperative (KUD) on the welfare level of plasma oil palm farmers in Bumi Kencana Village, Sungai Lilin District, Musi Banyuasin Regency. The objectives of this study were (1) to determine the institutional role of oil palm farmers in Bumi Kencana Village, Sungai Lilin District, Musi Banyuasin Regency, (2) To determine the level of welfare of oil palm farmers in Bumi Kencana Village, Sungai Lilin Subdistrict, Musi Banyuasin Regency, and (3) To determine the relationship between institutional roles and the welfare of oil palm farmers in Bumi Kencana Village, Sungai Lilin Subdistrict, Musi Banyuasin Regency. This study used a survey method and a questionnaire as an instrument. The sampling method in this study is simple random sampling with the number of samples using the role of thumb theory, namely 30 samples. This study took primary and secondary data which was conducted in November 2020. The results of this study were the role of agricultural institutions in Bumi Kencana Village including KUD, Gapoktan, and Farmer Groups which were tested by scoring with indicators of learning class, collaboration, farming units, facilities and infrastructure business units, marketing business units, and micro finance business units. The role of agricultural institutions in Bumi Kencana Village is classified as high criteria. Farmer group institutions play a high role in cooperative business units, Gapoktan institutions play a high role in learning class business units, and KUD institutions play a high role in microfinance business units. The welfare level of oil palm farmers based on the criteria for fulfilling the standard component of decent living in 2020 is 83% of farmers classified as prosperous, and 17% of farmers are classified as not prosperous, and the results of the Spearman rank test show a relationship between the role of agricultural institutions and the level of welfare of oil palm farmers.
