Abstract

The research is aimed al identifying the influence in the change of Capital Adequacy (CAR), Net Interest Margin (NIM), Non-performing Loan (NPL), BOPO, and Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR) the foreign and domestic banks’ profitability in the period of January 2000 - December 2011. The Chow Test is applied to find out the influence of the factors on each type of the banks. The data are based on the quarterly financial reports of both types of the banks published by Bank Indonesia. The sample consisting of 6 foreign banks and 6 domestic ones is selected through a purposive sampling technique. The data are analyzed using a multiple linear regression analysis. This research also applies the Chow Test to identify the different influence in the change of CAR, NIM, NPL, BOPO, and LDR on the profitability of foreign banks and that of domestic ones. The research results show that CAR and NIM indicate a positive and significant influence on the domestic banks, and NIM only on the foreign ones. The Chow test results in a different influence of CAR, NIM, NPL, BOPO, and LDR on the profitability of foreign banks and that of domestic ones. Investors are recommended to consider which type of the banks to invest in. Global competition causes both types to compete for survival. Such competition needs further research.
