Abstract

Background: Tooth extraction is the process of removing a tooth from the alveolar bone. Parts that are missing teeth will cause socket wounds. Socket wounds can undergo physiological healing, which is characterized by four phases of healing, namely hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and maturation. The reepithelialization process is thought to be accelerated by using herbal ingredients, namely plantain sap (Musa paradisiaca Var. Raja) which contains tannins, flavonoids and saponins. Objective: To determine the effective concentration in the application of plantain (Musa paradisiaca Var. Raja) sap gel against reepithelialization of socket wounds after tooth extraction of wistar rats.Materials and Methods: This study is an in vivo experimental study. A total of 28 white rats R.norvegicus wistar strain were divided into 4 treatment groups. The positive control group used chlorhexidine, while the treatment group was given 20%, 40% and 70% banana sap gel, the mice were adapted for 3 days. On the 4th day, 0.2 ml ketamine was administered intramuscularly, followed by extraction of the rat's teeth using an excavator and needle holder. Each treatment group and positive control were applied once a day for 14 days which would be euthanized on the 18th day. Socket tissue was taken and histological preparations were made, epithelial thickness was measured using a microscope and measured in m with three 400x magnification fields. Data were analyzed using Kruskal Wallis and Pairwise Comparison tests. Results: The results showed that 20% banana latex gel was the most effective in the re-epithelialization process compared to other treatment groups. Conclusion: The latex gel of plantain raja (Musa paradisiaca Var. Raja) can accelerate the process of re-epithelialization of socket wounds after tooth extraction.
