Abstract

Coal washing aims to improve the quality of coal with the principle of reducing ash content. High coal ash content is not good for the combustion process at the power plant. In this study, the aim of this study was to reduce the ash content of coal using a shaking table with the variables of water discharge and riffle height being the observed variables. This experiment used a water flow rate of 10.5 liters / minute, 13 liters / minute, 20 liters / minute, 21 liters / minute, and 29 liters / minute, while the riffle heights used were 2 mm, 4 mm and 8 mm. The results of the experiment were then carried out by laboratory tests to determine the moisture and ash content of the coal before and after the experiment was carried out. Based on the results of this research is that the higher the water flow and height of riffle used on atool shaking table when coal washing process then the quality of coal produced will be getting better, but yield the resultingwill be lower. The most ideal condition in this experiment occurs when theheight is riffle 4 mm with a water discharge of 29 liters / minute where the yield obtained is 65.20 with water content and ash content respectively 13.34% and 7.44% where in these conditions has met the fuel standards for steam power plants (PLTU).
