Abstract

This study with the title "Character-based Application of Politenes in the the Instructional Devices in Early Childhood Education (PAUD) in Palembang Sriwijaya University” was aimed at implementing the study results obtained in the first year. The finding of the first year study was a description of politeness among PAUD students in Palembang either character-based or non-character-based students. Another finding was description of politeness strategies used by character-based PAUD students. Both descriptions were introduced to PAUD teachers in Palembang. In addition, character-based instuctional devices were developed in collaboration with the teachers. Then, the teachers were tasked to write an action research proposal and to carry it out, whose results were communicated to all PAUD teachers in Palembang. This study was descriptive in nature and the action research conducted by the teachers applied the documentation, check list or observational sheet, tests, and interviews followed by quantitative and qualitative analysis. This study may confirm the theory of politeness of character-based PAUD students. This study also may benefit teachers of PAUD in developing instructional materials or devices, especially for teaching politeness to the young students. Teachers can carry out action research using character-based instructional devices.
