Abstract

The uncontrolled population rate were cause a baby booming. One of the factors causing the high birth rate in Indonesia is the low of number family planning acceptors among male couples of childbearing age. This aim of this reseach is to know the determinant the participation of male couples of childbearing age as family planning acceptors in Indonesia. This research is a quantitative-analytic study with a cross sectional design using secondary data from the 2017 Indonesian Demographic Health Survey (IDHS) with a multi-stage stratification sampling technique. The sample in this study amounted to 8278 people, namely all male couples of childbearing age who are married and include the inclusion criteria. Bivariate analysis using the chi-square test and multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regression tests with predictive model. The results of the bivariate analysis using the chi-square test showed that there was a relationship between education level, economic status, place of residence, exposure to family planning information, knowledges, health insurance and wife's support with the participation of male couples of childbearing age as family planning acceptors (p-value <0, 05). Multiple logistic regression test resulted that the level of education is the most dominant factor affecting participation male couples of childbearing age as family planning acceptors in Indonesia (p-value = <0.0001; PR= 2,403; CI= 1,918-3,010) after being controlled by the place of residence, and knowledge. Higher education levels have a 2,3 times higher chance as a family planning acceptor. This research is expected to be input for policy makers to strengthen the program to increase knowledge of family planning, especially family planning for men and implement reproductive health education curricula at the high school and tertiary education levels as well as expand cross-sectoral collaboration.
