Abstract

Banana (Musa paradisiaca Linn.) is one of the commodities of fruit plants that can live in tropical and sub-tropical countries. One of the main obstacles in the cultivation of banana plants is anthracnose which is a postharvest disease. Anthracnose is caused by Colletotrichum musae. Efforts to control this anthracnose disease can be carried out by utilizing vegetable fingicides including turmeric and kencur. Turmeric and kencur have secondary metabolites that have potential as antifungals such as essential oils, alkaloids, saponins and flavonoids. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the concentration of several plant extracts in suppressing the growth of C. musae which causes anthracnose on bananas in vitro. This study used a factorial completely randomized design (FCRD) with 7 treatments and 3 replications. The data were statistically analyzed using analysis of variance and then the Least Significant Difference (BNT) test was performed at the 5% level. The results showed that the application of turmeric and kencur extract had a significant effect on the percentage of inhibition and spore density of the fungus C. musae, but did not significantly affect the growth diameter of the fungal colonies of C. musae.
