Abstract

This research is entitled "ENVIRONMENTAL JOURNALISM IN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES BY THE NEWS PORTAL KOMPAS.COM (January-October 2020 Edition)". Environmental issues have become an international issue where the impact of environmental damage is directly felt by humans. The media has an obligation to invite and advocate for environmental sustainability. With the practice of environmental journalism, the media is able to represent all the concerns of the marginalized against environmental damage made by humans themselves. The purpose of this study is to find out how the application of environmental journalism in reporting environmental issues of Kompas.com news portal. This study uses the theory of Environmental Journalism from Ana Nadhya Abrar and using quantitative content analysis method. The environmental coverage during January-October 2020 totaled 189 news items edition were analyzed using the Holsty formula. The results of this study indicate that of the four dimensions of environmental journalism according to Ana Nadhya Abrar, namely: pro-sustainable, biocentric, pro-environmental justice and professional there is only one dimension that has a high percentage number, namely Professional. On the professional dimension which has indicators: the media conveying facts, the media involves competent sources, news is based on credible data and sources, the media includes sources have been fulfilled.
