Abstract

Adolescent smoking behavior for most people in Indonesia is part of social life and lifestyle regardless of the many toxins in cigarettes which are harmful to health, both for active and passive smokers. Parents' upbringing is one of the factors that significantly contributes to behavior, including smoking. This study aims to analyze the relationship of parenting parents with smoking behavior in junior high school students in the city of Palembang. This study uses a cross sectional approach. The research sample was 100 first school students in Palembang City. Research data collection using a questionnaire. The statistical tests used are chi square and logistic regression. The results get that there is a significant relationship between parenting authoritarian parents with smoking behavior of students (p value <0.05). ie 0.003 with an Odds Ratio (OR) value = 5,037 meaning that parenting authoritarian parents have a risk of 5,037 times that of junior high school students smoking compared to parenting non-authoritarian parenting. There is a significant relationship between parenting democratic parents with students' non-smoking behavior (p value <0.05). Ie 0,000 with an Odds Ratio (OR) = 0.135 means that there is a relationship between democratic parenting and student smoking behavior, which is 0.135 times meaning that democratic parenting has a decreased risk of 0.135 times middle school students smoking compared to parental parenting Democratic. There is a significant relationship between parenting permissive parenting with smoking behavior of students (p value <0.05). that is 0.002 with an Odds Ratio (OR) = 9,453 meaning that the pattern of permissive parenting has a risk of 9,457 times that of junior high school students smoking compared to parenting non-permissive parents. The most dominant risk factor causing smoking in junior high school students in Palembang is the permissive parenting variable in multivariate analysis with a value (OR) of 4.579. this means that parental permissive parenting has a risk of 4.579 times that junior high school students smoke compared to non permissive parenting.
