Abstract

The coastal waters of Banyuasin Regency have stable fishery resources so information on potential fishing zones (ZPPI) is required to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of fishermen's production activities. Oceanographic factors that influence fish abundance include sea surface temperature (SST) and chlorophyll-a. The purpose of this study was to analyze the value of sea surface temperature (SST) and chlorophyll-a concentration and analyze the pattern of fishing potential zones (ZPPI) in the Banyuasin Coastal waters, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra using remote sensing technology and geographic information systems (GIS). for three years (2017-2019). Aqua MODIS image data processing was carried out at the Marine Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS) Laboratory and chlorophyll-a analysis was carried out at the Oceanography and Marine Instrumentation Laboratory, Department of Marine Sciences, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sriwijaya University. The results showed that the distribution of sea surface temperature (SST) and chlorophyll-a had the optimum value for the potential fishing zone in Banyuasin waters, namely the sea surface temperature ranged from 26.3-35.9˚C and chlorophyll-a ranged from 0.2- 19.2 mg/m3. The pattern of fish movement in the west season, transition I and transition II tend to dominate in the waters of Sembilang National Park towards the offshore.
