Abstract
Construction development in Palembang city, which is growing rapidly, has an impact on increasing the need for building construction materials. Sand is one of the most widely used construction materials. In the use of sand (fine modulus), there are several important things to consider, including sludge content, organic content and gradation. All river sand taken from the source must be processed before being marketed. One of the mineral processing tools, sluice box is using the principle of density difference, it is expected that river sand that have washed will produce ready-to-use river sand that fulfill the standards raw material for manufacture concrete. The consequences of mining sand in the river causing a decrease in water quality, Therefore a study was conducted to analyze quality of sand river in the Musi river before and after washing with a sluice box and the impact that occurs due to sand mining in the Musi river with parameters TSS, TDS, Turbidity, pH. From the result of quality testing river sand before washing process, the sludge content obtained an average level of river sand 8.06% (not fulfill SNI standards). In testing the organic content of the sand, the color organic content is number 4-5 on the organic plate (not fulfill the SNI standard). Fine aggregate test results got the average fine modulus of river sand is 2,89, which indicates the grain size of the sand is rather coarse (not fulfill SNI standards). From the results of quality testing sand after washing process, sludge content obtained the average level of river sand is 1,06% (fulfill SNI standards). In testing the organic content of sand obtained the color of the organic content at number 2- 3 on organic plate (fulfill SNI standards). Fine aggregate test results got the average fine modulus is 2,09, which falls into the category of gradation area zone 3 which shows the grain size of fine sand (fulfill SNI standards). In water quality research, as a result of the mining activity on the Musi river, 3 Ilir, with parameter turbidity, Total Disolved Solid (TDS), Total Suspended Solid (TSS), and degree of acidity (pH) got result occur decrease the quality of water, which is getting close to the mining location the water quality is getting worse, it can be seen from the results of water quality tests in the laboratory from samples in the mining area and outside the mining area, it is shown by sample data at a radius of 1 meter from the mining site has a Turbidity value 591 NTU (exceeds water quality standard limit), TDS 76 mg/L (not exceeding the water quality standard limit), TSS 540 mg/L(exceeding the water quality standard limit), and pH value of 7,1 (not exceeding the water quality standard limit). And the further away from the mining location the water quality has a better quality value as in sample 1 which has a distance of 1.898 meters from the mining area, which has a turbidity value of 28 NTu, TDS 56 mg/L, TSS 28 mg/L, and a pH value of 7,5.
