Abstract

Dye Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC) is a device that functions to convert sunlight (photons) into electrical energy by using dye as a light-absorbing medium. Dye has an important role in performance DSSC. The dye used in this study was chlorophyll from water hyacinth leaf extract. Water hyacinth leaves were extracted using the method UAE for 45 minutes. The extracted water hyacinth leaves are then dried using the method of foam mat drying so that the dye can be stored for a longer time with good quality. Dye powder of water hyacinth leaf extract was then varied in concentration to determine the effect of different levels of dye on the performance of DSSC. The purpose of this research was to study the effect of concentrations dye different on the performance of DSSC. This research was conducted from April 2021 to June 2021, in the Energy and Electrification Laboratory, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. This research consists of three stages, among others: the preparation of assembly DSSC, testing and processing of data DSSC. The TCO glass used as the second electrode DSSC in this study has a resistance of 0.8 kΩ to 8.6 k. DSSC was tested with variations in dye concentration, namely 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10% as well as DSSC control which was extracted from pure water hyacinth leaves (without powder). Parameters included: calculation of chlorophyll content with absorbance data at 649 nm and 665 nm using the Wintermans and De Motz formula, current and voltage, power, charging factor and efficiency of DSSC. The content of chlorophyll continues to increase along with the concentration. The highest chlorophyll content was found in DSSC EG V with a concentration of 10%, which was 8.3405 mg/L. The Efficiency value DSSC best is generally shown in DSSC EGK VI which is a DSSC using dye control with an efficiency of 5.82%. As for the dye powdered water hyacinth leaf extract with various concentrations, the best performance was shown by DSSC EG II with a concentration of 4%. The results of the electrical characteristics on the parameters tested include Voc: 647 mV, Isc: 0.0364 mA, Imax: 0.0255 mA, Vmax: 321 mV, Poutput: 8.1855 mW, FF: 0.347 and Efficiency: 4.92%.
