Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the number of blades and blade rotation speed on the performance of the chopper machine on the kepok banana chips chopper. This research was carried out from April 2021 to May 2021 at the Tool and Machinery Workshop, Department of Agricultural Technology, Sriwijaya University. The method used is a Randomized complete design factorial (RAKF) with two research factors, namely the number of blades (A) with two treatment levels and blade rotation speed (B) three treatment levels for each treatment combination repeated three times. The parameters of this research include the Effective Capacity of the Tool, Chop Efficiency, and Percentage of Damaged Chopping Results. The value of the highest effective capacity of the tool is found in the combination of four blade treatments and a speed of 803 rpm (A2B3) which is 257.42 kg/h. The highest chopping efficiency value was found in the combination of four blade treatments and a speed of 500 rpm (A2B1) of 99.53%. And the lowest percentage of broken chopping results was found in the combination of two blade treatments and a speed of 803 rpm (A1B3) which was 7.67%.The lowest percentage of thickness uniformity was found in the treatment of four blades and a speed of 803 rpm (A2B3) which was 46.89% and the highest percentage was found in the treatment of two blades and a speed of 500 rpm (A1B1) which was 87.34%.
