Abstract

Background: Post-extraction of a tooth will result in an injury called a socket. Fish is a food that has a high nutritional content. Giant featherback is a source of nutrients, but its effect on colllagen thickness is never been researched. Objective: To determine the effect of Giant Featherback (Chitala lopis) extract collagen thickness on post-tooth extraction wounds in male Wistar rats. Methods: This type of research is an experimental laboratory with a post test only control group design. 24 male Wistar rat were divided into 6 groups. After the mandibular incisor was extracted, rats in groups 1, 2, and 3 were given Giant Featherback extract, and groups 4, 5, and 6 were given aquadest orally once a day. Groups 1 and 4 were treated for 3 days, groups 2 and 5 were treated for 5 days, and groups 3 and 6 were treated for 7 days, then the rats were euthanized and made histological preparations. Collagen thickness was measured using olympus software and analyzed using One Way ANOVA test. Results: Collagen thickness in the aquadest group for 5 days was the highest average value and in the Giant Featherback extract group for 5 days was the lowest average value. ANOVA test proved that the average value of collagen thickness was not significant between the treatment and control groups (p>0.05). Conclusion: The administration of Giant Featherback extract had no effect on collagen thickness in wound healing after tooth extraction of Wistar rats.
