Abstract

ABSTRACT : Use of plastic packaging has triggered the accumulation of garbage in the oceans and caused water polution. The plastic in subsequent waters will be degraded into smaller sizes. Microplastic accumulated into the body of biota can cause damage internal organs and blockage of the digestive tract. Demersal fish is a fish that is liked by the community and has high economic value. Therefore, demersal fish were selected as research samples to analyze the characteristics and content of microplastics. The types of demersal fish that became the research sample were chacunda gizzard shad fish, amoy croaker fish, pomfret fish and fourfinger threadfin fish. Samples of demersal fish were taken at the Fish Auction Place (TPI) Sungsang. Microplastic analysis was carried out using an Olympus CX23 microscope, while plastic polymer analysis was carried out using the FT-IR test. Based on the results of the analysis, the number of microplastics found was 267 particles with fiber, fragment and film types. The number of microplastics was found in chacunda gizzard shad fish (89 particles), amoy croaker fish (68 particles), pomfret fish (58 particles) and fourfinger threadfin fish (52 particles). The colors of microplastic found were transparent (40%), black (30%), cream (21.34%), blue (0.74%), red (5.61%) and yellow (1%). The types of polymers found were polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), OH stretch, and ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM). The discovery of microplastic contamination in the digestive tract of demersal fish indicates the occurrence of microplastic pollution that will have an impact on humans.
