Abstract

This research aims to find out how the domestic political dynamics of the Republic of Ireland in ratifying the policy of the European Fiscal Compact in 2012. The dynamics of Irish domestic politics when conducting a referendum are always interesting to assess. This research focuses on Irish domestic political actors who are directly involved in influencing the Referendum process. This research is analyzed using Foreign Policy Theory to see the existing indicators. The results show that the Referendum's Foreign Policy is influenced by three dimensions that encourage the implementation of the policy. The first dimension covers the specific objectives of the Referendum such as implementing the Constitution, maintaining relations with the European Union, to improving the socio-economic status of Ireland. Second, the motivation of the policy movers, namely the actors. Third, domestic, international, socio-cultural, economic, and ideational factors also influence the holding of this Referendum. The domestic political dynamics of the Republic of Ireland to ratify the European Fiscal Compact policy can be seen from these three dimensions and also the role of the actors driving Ireland's domestic politics which are divided into two parties, namely the supporters of the Referendum and those who reject the Referendum. These political dynamics can be seen from the different attitudes of the actors in the Referendum. The supporting actors of the Referendum used the aspect of fear of an unclear future if Ireland did not ratify the European Fiscal Compact policy, while the opposite actors of the Referendum used the emotional aspect and people's disappointment with the Irish Government for failing to find a solution to make Ireland rise. In the end, the supporters of the Referendum won the influence in Irish domestic politics with the result that the majority of the people agreed with the Referendum.
