Abstract

Silage is one way of preserving forage feed that is stored in fresh airtight conditions in a silo, so that it can lead to a fermentation process by lactic acid bacteria during storage, and produce osin bacteria to improve silage quality by using additives during the ensilage process. The purpose of this research was to determine the the effect of using inoculant’s Hymenachne acutigluma silage on crude protein, crude fat and crude fiber content. This study was conducted from August to November 2019 in the Nutrition and Forage Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The study used the Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisted of four treatments and six repetitions. The treatments consisted of Control (Hymenachne acutigluma silage without inoculant addition), Effective Microorganism-4 (Hymenachne acutigluma silage + 3% EM-4), Rumen Fluid (Hymenachne acutigluma silage + 3% rumen fluid), Fermented Rice Washing Water (Hymenachne acutigluma silage + 3% fermented rice washing water). The parameters observed were crude protein, crude fat and crude fiber content. The results showed that the use of various types of inoculants in kumpai copper grass silage had a significant (P<0.05) effect on crude protein and crude fiber content, but not significant (P>0.05) on crude fat content. The study conclusion is that the treatment of silage of Hymenachne acutigluma inoculated with a 3% rumen solution generated the best fermentation quality than other treatments because it resulted in crude protein 9,37%, crude fat 1,83% and crude fiber 27,18%. Keywords: Crude Fat, Crude Fiber, Crude Protein, Inoculants, Hymenachne acutigluma, Silage.
