Abstract

A hotel is a multi-storey building and it has a high risk if a fire occurred. It is because there are many floors and people have to be evacuated if a fire happened. A good emergency response plan is very necessary to survive when a fire occurs, so to prevent casualties. This research is a descriptive study using a qualitative approach. In this study, the informants were selected by purposive sampling, the number of informants is six people. This study aims to analyze the implementation of a fire Emergency Response Plan (ERP) following the reference to SNI 03–1746–2000, SNI 03-6574-2001, and NFPA 101 life safety code. Moreover, to calculate the evacuation time based on the standard SFPE 3rd Handbook of Fire Protection Engineer in 2002. The results of the study indicate that Hotel X Palembang has had procedures and an emergency response team, still it is not written yet. Fire emergency response coaching and training is carried out at least once a year. The hotel has three exits, stairs, emergency stairs, emergency exits, and a wide corridor. There is a meeting point in front of a strategic hotel building, with the signs for exiting directions put on each floor. Communication for emergency response when a fire occurred is by contacting a security guard and engineer. In addition, if the fire cannot be controlled, so they will contact a fire department. However, not all hotel residents have an important number in case of an emergency. The evacuation time required to reach the meeting point is 4.57 minutes, while the standard according to NFPA 101 is 3 minutes. It is necessary to make the written emergency response procedures, conduct regular fire emergency response coaching and training at least twice a year by adding to the training schedule, making and posting important numbers in each room.
