Abstract

Batu Jungul and Suka Dana villages are two villages that are included in the Muara Pinang District, Empat Lawang Regency which still use plants as traditional cosmetics. Traditional cosmetics are cosmetics made from various natural ingredients that are processed traditionally. Meanwhile, ethnobotany can be said to be a knowledge of traditional society regarding the use of plants in supporting their lives, such as for the purposes of eating, cosmetics, medicine, building materials, traditional ceremonies, culture, coloring materials and so on. The purpose of this research is to identify and identify the types of plants, families, habitus, uses, plant organs, sources of acquisition and to find out the processing and use methods used by the Lintang tribe as traditional cosmetics. This research was conducted from September to November 2020, using descriptive survey methods and field observations, by means of interviews, field observations, sampling, documentation, and identification. The observation variables in this study include the types of plants, families, habitus, uses, plant organs, sources of acquisition, processing methods and uses used for various types of treatment by the Lintang tribe as traditional cosmetics. The results showed that the cosmetic plants used by the Lintang tribe in various beauty treatments were 48 species from 28 families. The most widely used family was the Zingiberaceae family (14.58%), the most widely used habitus was herbs (41.66%), with the most widely used organs in the form of leaves (39.58%) obtained by cultivation or planting (77.08%). As well as the method of processing and using traditional cosmetic plants which is most often done is by mashing or grating it (41.66%), by way of applying it (43.75%).
