Abstract

The mineral processing is a process of increasing the level and quantity of a mineral in order to meet certain industrial standards. One of the tools commonly used is the Sluice box using the principle of the difference in specific gravity with the help of water discharge. The applied variables become the benchmark for concentrate gain in accordance with the expected levels and quantity in the form of recovery for the success of the processing carried out. The application of variable water discharge and modification of the shape of the riffle was applied to the silica sand washing process with impurities to obtain SiO2 content according to the criteria off the cement industry. Initially, the average SiO2 content in the feed before processing was 79.05% of the total sample weight of 1000 grams of 27 samples. Based on 27 experiments using 3 discharge variations, 14.28 L/minute, 19.23 L/minute and 25 L/minute and 9 types of riffle modification, only a few experiments obtained the most optimal SiO2 content and recovery to meet the needs of the cement industry, namely in the experiment with a water discharge of 14.28 L/min with a riffle length of 10 cm and a height of 8mm with a concentration of 93.32% and recovery of 91.13%. The faster the discharge used, the increase but the amount of recovery quantity produced decreases. The calculation of the silica sand content test value was obtained after performing microscopic test analysis with the Grain Counting Analysis or GCA method.
