Abstract

This study aims to describe the improvement of student learning outcomes in solving math story problems using Polya's Steps in grade IV SD Negeri 25 Indralaya. This study used a classroom action research method (PTK) which was carried out for 3 cycles. Each stage of the cycle includes planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The data collection techniques used were tests and observations. Based on the results and discussion of this study, it was found that the percentage of success in cycle 1 reached 40, then in cycle 2 the percentage of success was 60 and in cycle 3 the percentage of success reached 80. This shows that the application of Polya Steps can improve student learning outcomes. From the learning process cycle 1, it was obtained the activeness of students with a percentage of 60 in the "inactive" category. Meanwhile, in the second cycle of learning process, the students' activeness was 75 in the "fairly active" category. And from the learning process cycle 3 obtained the activeness of students with a percentage of 90 with the category of "Active" activity. The implication of this research is that Polya’s Steps can be used as a way for teachers to help students solve story problems more easily.
