Abstract

Background : Schizophrenia is a multifactorial disorder, including genetic and environmental factors. Several environmental factors are associated with an increased risk of schizophrenia, including: parental risk factors (paternal age and maternal age), as well as a history of maternal pregnancy and childbirth. This study aims to identify parental risk factors in Schizophrenia patients at Ernaldi Bahar Hospital, Palembang. Methods : This research is a descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional study design. Samples were patients or families of Schizophrenia patients at Ernaldi Bahar Hospital Palembang who met the inclusion criteria and were taken using a consecutive sampling technique within a period of one month. Guided interviews were conducted to obtain primary data. Results : In a one month period, 66 samples met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results showed that the highest proportion of parents when the patient was born was father age 25-34 years (54.5%), maternal age 15-24 years (56.1%). Conclusion : The age of the parents at the time the patient was born for the father was in the range of 25-34 years while the mother was in the age group between 15-24 years.
