Abstract

Background : Schizophrenia is a psychotic mental disorder in which the sufferers cannot recognize and can not relate to reality. Schizophrenia is a multifactorial disease, one of the factors that cause the incidence of schizophrenia is socioeconomic status. This study aims to identify the socioeconomic risk factors of Schizophrenia patients at Ernaldi Bahar Hospital, Palembang. Methods : This study is a descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional study design. Samples were patients or families of Schizophrenia patients at Ernaldi Bahar Hospital Palembang who met the inclusion criteria and samples were taken using a consecutive sampling technique within a period of one month. The data used are primary data taken through guided interviews. Results : Within a one month period, 66 samples met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results showed that the highest proportion of schizophrenic patients was male (68.2%), aged 35-44 years (36.4%). Conclusion : The demographic characteristics of schizophrenic patients at Ernaldi Bahar Hospital are the majority of male (68.2%) with a majority age range of 35-44 years (36.4%).
