Abstract

Background: Sleep quality is a person's satisfaction with sleep, so that person does not experience fatigue, restlessness, apathy and lethargy. Decreased sleep quality can cause fatigue and has several different effects on humans, such as it can make people think and work more slowly, make more mistakes, and have a harder time remembering things. On the other hand, adequate sleep will have a strong regulatory effect on the immune system to fight various infections. A study in the United States reported that 51% of medical students had poor sleep quality, while a study in Lithuania reported similar results at 59%. One study in Indonesia, namely Andalas University, found that 53% of students had poor sleep quality. One of the causes of poor sleep quality in medical students is the use of sleep time to study. This has attracted researchers to assess the relationship between sleep quality and immune status in medical students during the Covid-19 pandemic. Methods: This type of research is an observational analytic study with a cross sectional approach. Data were taken using primary data in the form of the Immune Status Questionnaire (ISQ) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaires. The population in this study were students of PSPD FK UNSRI batch 2019 who met the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria. Results: From 223 respondents, it was found that students who had poor sleep quality with poor immune status (49.3%) were more than students who had good sleep quality with good immune status, good sleep quality with poor immune status and good sleep quality. poor with good immune status. Chi-Square results show P value (0.022) < 0.05, it can be concluded that the hypothesis is accepted and statistically with OR = 2.533 Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between sleep quality and immune status. Good sleep quality has 2.533 times the risk of having a good immune status compared to poor sleep quality. Keywords: sleep quality, immune status, immunity, infection, Immune Status Questionnaire, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, catecholamines, cortisol, melatonin.
