Abstract

Coronavirus is an encapsulated positive single-stranded RNA virus that causes respiratory disease in animals and humans. Several pneumonia cases reported in China in late 2019 were identified as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2, the etiologic agent of COVID-19. This study aims to determine the characteristics of COVID-19 patients and dead body management for COVID-19 cases at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin. This study used a descriptive observational research design. The population of this study were all patients who died related to COVID-19 and eight forensic staff at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin. Data was obtained through medical records of patients who died related to COVID-19 and questionnaires for forensic staff. The data were analyzed using the SPSS program. Patients who died related to COVID-19 were dominated by men (57.6%), aged more than 60 years (42.1%), and came from Palembang City (59.2%). In this study, there were 298 confirmed cases (96.4%) with diabetes mellitus as the highest comorbidity (24.3%). The dead body management for COVID-19 cases at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin has complied with Keputusan Menteri Kesehatan Republik Indonesia Nomor HK.01.07/MENKES/4834/2021. There are characteristics based on gender, age, place of residence, case diagnosis, and comorbidities in patients who died related to COVID-19 at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin and the dead body management for COVID-19 cases has complied with the Decree of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia.
