Abstract

Background: Heart valve disease in Indonesia is still common, although the exact number has not been reported. Mitral valve disease is classified into mitral stenosis (MS) and mitral regurgitation (MR). This study aims to describe the clinical profile of patients with mitral valve disease who underwent open heart surgery at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang period September 2017—May 2021 Methods: This study is a descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional design. The samples were patients with mitral valve disease who underwent open heart surgery at Dr. RSUP. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria was taken using the total sampling technique in the period September 2017 to May 2021. The data that was used in this study was patient’s secondary data taken at the Medical Record Installation of Dr. RSUP. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Results: In the period September 2017 to May 2021, 33 samples met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results showed that the type of mitral valve disease was higher in mitral stenosis (63.6%). Patients with mitral valve disease were highest in the age group ≤ 44 years (39.4%) and more common in women (75.8%). The most common comorbidity that was found in mitral valve disease is pulmonary hypertension (36.4%). The mortality rate was recorded in 5 patients (15.2%) and the majority of patients were hospitalized for <11 days (69.7%) with an average of 8.24 days. And from the cross tabulation, the most common comorbidity thas was found in patients who died was pulmonary hypertension (6.2%) Conclusion: The majority of patients with mitral valve disease who underwent open heart surgery at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang had mitral stenosis. Demographic characteristics of the patients were the age group of 44 years and more common in women. Keywords: Mitral Valve Disease, Mitral Stenosis, Mitral Regurgitation.
