Abstract

Background. Heart failure in children is one of the causes of mortality and morbidity in childhood. Congenital heart disease (CHD) is a much more common disease because it accounts for more cases of heart failure overall. Nearly 60% of heart failure cases in pediatric patients occur within the first year of life. Overall mortality was lower in the CHD population than in patients with heart failure from other causes. This study aims to determine the characteristics of patients with heart failure in children at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang period January 2018-December 2021. Method. This research is an observational descriptive study and uses secondary data in the form of medical record data at Dr. RSUP. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang for the period January 2018-December 2021 who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Hasil. From this study, it was found that pediatric patients with heart failure at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang had the highest distribution in the age group 0-5 years (73.9%), sex with the same amount (50%), the etiology of CHD (67.4%) with the type of VSD (39.1%), signs and symptoms of dyspnea (95.7%), length of stay <8 days (54.3%), normal blood levels, therapy in the form of diuretics (93.5%), and life outcome (80.4 %). There were also patients in the age group 0-5 years (58.7%), female gender (34.8%), signs and symptoms of dyspnea (67.4%), length of stay <8 days (39.1%) , normal blood levels, therapy in the form of diuretics (67.4%), and life outcome (59.3%) had CHD as the etiology of heart failure which was more dominant than other etiologies. Conclusion. Pediatric patients with heart failure at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang mostly aged 0-5 years, sex with the same number, CHD etiology with VSD type, signs and symptoms of dyspnea, length of hospitalization <8 days, more blood levels are normal than abnormal, therapy in the form of diuretics, and life outcome. Based on the etiology of heart failure, most of the patients aged 0-5 years, female, signs and symptoms of dyspnea, length of stay <8 days, more blood levels are normal than abnormal, therapy in the form of furosemide, and life outcome had CHD as the etiology of heart failure. predominant than other etiologies.
