Abstract

This study aims to describe the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students using a problem-based learning model on quadratic equation material. This research is descriptive research. The research subjects were students of class IX Junior high School IT Madani Kayuagung. Collecting data using written tests and interviews to measure the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistics, namely: mean (average) and percentage. Furthermore, the written test results obtained will be checked according to the scoring guidelines. Then the scores obtained are categorized based on the ability to understand students’ mathematical concepts. Then determine the percentage of students based on the category of ability to understand mathematical concepts (very high, high, medium, low, or very low). The results showed that the ability to understans mathematical concepts of class IX students on Junior High School IT Madani Kayuagung was in the medium category with an average score of 63.88.
