Abstract

The occurrence of cases of increased hypertension can be caused by various influencing factors. And the increasing prevalence in people with hypertension can affect a person's quality of life. Hypertension is one of the factors in the occurrence of death where hypertension is often referred to as the "Silent Killer". Several factors that influence the occurrence of hypertension include age, gender, physical activity, occupation, education, smoking habits, incidence of hypertension and consumption of risky foods. This study aims to determine the factors associated with the incidence of hypertension in the elderly (45-60 years) in the South Sumatra region on the 2018 Riskesdas data. This study is a quantitative study with a crosssectional study design using the 2018 Basic Health Research Survey data (Riskesdas). 2018). The population in this study were all elderly in South Sumatra, aged 45-60 years. The research sample was all pre-elderly population aged 45-60 years who were included in the riskesdas research and carried out blood pressure measurements in the South Sumatra region. Analysis of the data used is a complex sample of chi square and multiple logistic regression. Based on the results of multivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between age (PR adjusted 1.91), occupation (PR adjusted 1.32), education (PR adjusted 1.24), obesity incidence (PR adjusted 2.33), consumption of sweet foods (often ) (PR adjusted 0.53), consumption of sweet foods (rare) (PR adjusted 0.63), smoking habits (PR adjusted 0.68). It can be concluded that the most dominant risk factor for hypertension is obesity. It is hoped that all people will maintain a healthy lifestyle and reduce the consumption of food or drinks that are at risk of increasing blood pressure.
