Abstract

Pulau Sumalcra merupakan daerah yang rawan terjadi gempa bumi. Untuk mengetahui faktor penyebab dan pola kecenderungan terjadinya gempa bumi di Pulau Sumatera dapat digambarkan dengan interpretasi langsung melalui metode plot episenter dan analisis trend frekuensinya. Daerah studi penelitian ini sendiri meliputi batasan wilayah 5° LS - 10° LU dan 90° BT - 105° BT. Berdasarkan data historis gempa bumi sejak tahun 1976 sampai dengan tahun 2004 diperoleh garis trend frekuensi gempa bumi untuk masing-masing kedalaman 0 - 60 km dan 60 - 300 km. Secara umum pola kecenderungan terjadinya gempa bumi di Pulau Sumatera mengalami peningkatan dari tahun ke Uihun akibat aktivitas tektonik Sesar Mentawai. Kata kunci : Gempa bumi, implikasi sesar
