Abstract

Background. Lipoma is a benign tumor consisting of mature adipose tissue, which mostly occur as a superficial soft tissue mass. Lipoma is most frequently found in the upper back, proximal extremity, and abdominal region. Age and sex are estimated to be risk factors to the development of lipoma. This study aims to determine the distribution of age, sex, and site among lipoma patients of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin, Palembang, from the year 2020 to 2021. Method. This study was a descriptive study. Samples were lipoma patients who were diagnosed through Anatomical Pathology Laboratory and who fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Obtained data was processed by using SPSS 22 software. Results. The most frequent age group in this study was 40 years and up, consisting of 40 patients (66.7%). Overall, there were more female patients than male patients, with 31 (51.7%) and 28 (48.3%) patients each, respectively. Lipoma was most frequently found on the head area with 11 patients (18.3%), followed by upper extremity with 9 patients (15.0%), and lower extremity with 8 patients (13.3%). Conclusion. Lipoma was most frequently found at age 40 years and up. Sex-wise, among all lipoma patients, lipoma was more frequent in females than males. Lipoma was most frequently found on the head area, followed by upper and lower extremities, and abdomen.
